Playground Games has announced that Forza Horizon 5, previously an Xbox exclusive, will launch on PlayStation 5 (PS5) this spring. The announcement marks another significant step in Xbox’s expanding strategy to bring its flagship titles to competing platforms.
The PS5 version is being developed through a collaboration between Panic Button, Turn 10 Studios, and Playground Games. PlayStation players will receive the complete Forza Horizon 5 experience, including all previously released content such as Car Packs and the popular Hot Wheels and Rally Adventure expansions. The game will also support cross-platform play, allowing PS5 players to race alongside their friends on Xbox and PC.
A new content update called Horizon Realms will launch across all platforms, featuring a curated selection of community-favorite Evolving Worlds alongside additional content that Playground Games has yet to reveal.

This release follows Microsoft’s recent business strategy shift, coming after other Xbox exclusives like Sea of Thieves and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle made their way to PlayStation. The decision appears to align with Xbox’s broader platform-agnostic approach, with Xbox head Phil Spencer confirming plans to support Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 console as well.
The timing of this announcement coincides with Microsoft’s recent financial reports, which showed mixed results in the gaming sector. While Indiana Jones and the Great Circle reached 4 million players and PC Game Pass saw a 30% growth, overall gaming revenue declined, with console sales dropping by nearly 30%.

Originally released in 2021, Forza Horizon 5 has earned acclaim for its blend of arcade-style racing and open-world exploration set in a vibrant recreation of Mexico. The game offers a more accessible racing experience compared to its simulation-focused counterpart, Forza Motorsport.
