The Silent Hill Transmission live stream has revealed Konami is producing five different Silent Hill projects, ending the series’ near decade-long hiatus. These include a new mainline title called Silent Hill f and a remake of Silent Hill 2.
Here is a rundown of every project that was announced:
Silent Hill 2 Remake
The Silent Hill 2 Remake is being developed from the ground up by Bloober Team, the studio behind the horror games The Medium and the Layers of Fear series. The story will once again see James Sunderland receive a letter from his dead wife asking him to meet in the town of Silent Hill.
The game will see monster designer Masahiro Ito and composer Akira Yamaoka return to the series. The original game released for the PS2 is considered one of the best horror games of all time. The remake will release on the PS5 and PC. A release date has currently not been confirmed.
Silent Hill f
Silent Hill f seems to be the latest game in the mainline series. This will be a completely new story set in 1960s Japan featuring a beautiful, yet horrifying world. If a Silent Hill game is not set in the town of Silent Hill sounds odd, just keep in mind that Silent Hill 4 also was not set in the original town.
The game will be written by Ryuunishi 07, famed for Higurashi: When They Cry and Umineko: When They Cry, Japanese visual novels dealing with murder mysteries, and psychological horror.
Silent Hill Townfall
Silent Hill Townfall is a co-production with renowned publisher Annapurna Interactive (Stray, Outer Wilds, Neon White) and multiple BAFTA award-winning independent developer No Code Studios (Stories Untold, Observation).
This partnership represents how incredible studios and creatives around the globe will offer a new perspective on the iconic Silent Hill franchise. More details on Silent Hill: Townfall and Konami’s partnership with Annapurna Interactive and No Code Studios will be revealed in the future.
Silent Hill Ascension
Konami says “Silent Hill: Ascension will immerse participants around the globe in the psychological horror at the heart of Silent Hill in a unique way. It will put a whole new story and characters into the hands of the audience as the narrative unfolds, live on multiple platforms.”
Silent Hill: Ascension is a collaboration between Genvid Entertainment, Bad Robot Games, Behaviour Interactive, and dj2 Entertainment. It will be released in 2023.
Return To Silent Hill
Return To Silent Hill is the latest Silent Hill move. It is being directed and written by Christophe Gans, who also directed the original Silent Hill movie in released in 2006. Gans says that the new movie will be about a young man coming back to the town only to find nightmares.
It seems Konami is really all out in bringing back Silent Hill with an assortment of different kinds of projects both appealing to the original fanbase as well as a number of new horror trends. I’m personally most excited about Silent Hill f will Ryukushi07 as the writer. Higurashi has proven he’s a master at small-town supernatural horror which very much fits Silent Hill as a series.
We will likely hear more about each of these projects throughout 2023.
