Fire Emblem has been a great video game series under Nintendo. First produced and published for the Family Computer (Famicom), the series currently consists of fifteen games, including remakes, across multiple game systems. And now Fire Emblem finally makes its move to smartphones by releasing Fire Emblem Heroes on iOS and Android platforms worldwide at February 2, 2017.
The game falls into tactical role-playing category and it is Free to Play, with some optional in-app purchases. The game’s currency are known as “orbs“, which can be earned by completing battles or paying with real money.
There is a random gacha draw system for the characters, 5 Orbs are required to perform a draw. Although it is random, but you get to choose which type of character to be drawn. For example, if you need an archer for your team, just tap the crystal with corresponding color and shape. The character drawn range from 3 star (bronze) to 5 star (gold), depends on your luck. By the way, you can get discounted price if you choose to pull character continuously.
There will also be a stamina bar which you have to wait for refill or replenish with Orbs when it drains out. Most story battle used up 2 stamina, some tough level used up 5. You can use your stamina in Training Tower too, where you can train up your characters and earn materials. The battle is all about turn-based with no critical attacks or misses. However, units will get to use their special attacks after a certain number of turns. The game rules are very simple, swords beat axes, axes beat lances and lances beat swords.
So far the part of the game that I really likes is its user interface. You can just simply drag your character to move towards for killing, healing or buffing another character. There are terrain effects too where you can destroy walls to create new paths. As the characters wouldn’t be able to hold items or switch weapons, you can only worry about how to make your desired face off to happen.
I could say Fire Emblem Heroes is quite attractive to me so I do recommend any Fire Emblem fan to give it a try. For sure you will have some fun with it!
