Though there isn’t official news yet, a supposed “demo leak” of Final Fantasy VII Remake (FFVIIR) had been uploaded to the great wide web. The leak shows off the early game as you might expect, but most importantly, it confirms a quite large story diversion! Warning for spoilers for the following.
This leaked demo shows a change of events at the Shinra Mako Reactor. The original game saw the eco-terrorists AVALANCHE destroying the reactor with a bomb, which then lead to deaths of countless of innocents. In the Remake, it looks like it wasn’t AVALANCHE’s bomb that caused the explosion: it’s Shinra instead!
The bomb is planted by AVALANCHE following the original game, but the explosion is much smaller and does not manage to destroy the Mako Reactor. President Shinra witnesses this event and orders Heidegger to create an even bigger explosion. This is to make AVALANCHE a scapegoat and be seen as a villain by the masses. You can watch the scene from the 11:19 timestamp in the video below.
This change may not be so vital for some, but it nevertheless diverges from the original Final Fantasy VII. With the change, AVALANCHE is certainly placed more firmly in the “good” side, and Shinra veering more to the “bad” side with this deceit.
What do you think of this change in the demo leak for FFVIIR? Do you agree with the change? We’ll find out for ourselves should the demo come out, or when the game releases 3 March 2020 for the PS4.
