Square Enix have updated the box art for Final Fantasy VII Remake / FFVIIR, showing it as a PS4 timed exclusive. It is now emblazoned with “Playstation Exclusive. Play first on PS4*. Timed Exclusive until 3/3/21”. Originally spotted by Twitter user, Wario64, people can now look forward to seeing this highly anticipated remake on other platforms! FFVIIR is set for a 3 March, 2020 release on the Playstation 4. This gives the game a year’s timed exclusivity on the console.
No other platforms have been revealed at present. We do know that the Playstation 5 is due Holiday 2020, at the very least, and next generation consoles are on their way out too. Would it mean that the later FFVIIR Episodes also be Playstation timed-exclusives as well? At present, we know that FFVIIR Part 2 is in the works, though details for that are currently scarce.
What platforms would you expect to see the FFVIIR remake move to, after the PS4 timed exclusive period ends? One could reasonably assume it would arrive on the PC. It would likely be too graphical intensive for the Nintendo Switch unlike the original. It could make its way to the next generation Xbox, at least.
Either way, this is good news for fans of FFVIIR who didn’t want to get a console for the PS4 timed exclusive. You’ll just have to wait longer to see a brand new Midgar. You can check out our hands-on gameplay experience here, from Tokyo Games Show 2019. Have you gotten your copy yet?
