Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has made history as Square Enix’s most successful single-player Final Fantasy launch on PC, reaching an impressive peak of 40,564 concurrent players on Steam. This achievement positions it as the third-highest concurrent player count among all Square Enix titles on the platform.
According to data from SteamDB, highlighted by ResetEra user FarSight XR-20, only two Square Enix games have achieved higher concurrent player numbers: Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake and Final Fantasy 14. The game continues to maintain strong player engagement, with 26,768 active Steam users currently playing.

With the weekend still ongoing, there’s potential for even higher numbers. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth could potentially surpass Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake’s record of 45,357 concurrent players, further cementing its place in Square Enix’s PC gaming history.
This launch represents a significant milestone for the Final Fantasy franchise on PC, demonstrating the strong appeal of the series among PC gamers and the successful expansion of Square Enix’s traditionally console-focused titles to the PC platform.
As Rebirth continues to break records, Square Enix is already well into development of the trilogy’s conclusion. Directors Naoki Hamaguchi and Yoshinori Kitase have confirmed that work on the third installment began in early 2024, immediately following Rebirth’s completion. According to Hamaguchi’s recent interview with 4Gamer.net, the team has established a strong gameplay foundation and is now focused on design refinement.
In a departure from Rebirth’s PlayStation 5 exclusivity, Kitase has confirmed that the third installment will adopt a multiplatform approach. This aligns with Hamaguchi’s stated commitment to making their games accessible to a broader player base, suggesting the final chapter may see a simultaneous release across multiple platforms.
