Those hungry for more FFVII and cannot wait for the remake to come out will be pleased to know that 2004’s Before Crisis mobile game has been fan-translated using RPG Maker. Up until now, the game has been an exclusive in Japan and never got an official localisation in the west.
Square Enix worked on this action RPG which serves as the prequel to the event in FFVII, six years before we meet Cloud and members of Avalanche. Interestingly enough, Before Crisis is also the first original game made by Square Enix for the mobile platform.
Hajime Tabata, a game director at Square Enix, had at one point hinted at remaking the game for the Nintendo 3DS, but nothing came out of that. As such fans took up the task themselves and remade it from scratch using RPG Maker.
Before Crisis touches on the Turks, a group of individuals that would be familiar to fans of FFVII, and this is pretty much the only medium that explores them in greater depth. With that upcoming remake, there is a chance that they will play a more important role, but until then, give this a shot. There is no telling when and if Square Enix will the taking action, so be sure to download it before it’s gone by following this link.
