Yasumi Matsuno, a former Square Enix game video game designer known for his work in many of their classic RPGs like Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story Final Fantasy XII as well as his work on the Tactics Ogre series is confirmed to be working on a new project.
This was confirmed as part of a series of end-of-year interviews that 4Gamer had with 147 Japanese video game developers.
This included Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi who said that Matsuno was working on a new project with him as a scenario writer. Sakaguchi did not say anything more about this new title but he says he looks forward to seeing how Matsuno’s writing for the game will turn out.
Yasumi Matsuno left Square Enix in 2005 after working on the concept for Final Fantasy XII. He has since become a freelance writer. He returned to the Final Fantasy series with the ‘Return to Ivalice’ and ‘Save the Queen’ side stories in the MMO RPG Final Fantasy XIV.
He most recently worked on Unsung Story which was for early access on Steam in 2020 following a rocky development cycle. It is due to release for PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and mobile devices sometime in the near future.
