Square Enix has announced that the Final Fantasy I-VI Pixel Remaster Collection will receive a wide retail release for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on October 8, 2024, in North America and Europe. The collection, which includes remastered versions of the first six Final Fantasy games, will be available through the Square Enix Store and other retailers for $74.99.
Previously, the collection was only available as a limited release in the West, quickly selling out upon announcement. This new wide release aims to make these classic titles more accessible to fans and newcomers alike. The Pixel Remaster versions feature updated 2D pixel graphics optimized for high-definition displays, along with rearranged soundtracks overseen by original composer Nobuo Uematsu.
Gameplay improvements include a modernized user interface and auto-battle options. The physical release will include a sticker sheet featuring iconic Final Fantasy characters. The games are currently available digitally on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
Key features of the Pixel Remaster series include:
- Option to switch between original and rearranged soundtracks
- Choice of default or pixel-based fonts
- Ability to turn off random encounters
- Experience boost options
- Auto-battle functionality
- Extras such as a bestiary, art gallery, and music player
These optional features aim to enhance the gaming experience for both longtime fans and new players. The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection encompasses from Final Fantasy I through Final Fantasy VI, offering players the opportunity to experience or revisit these influential RPGs in a format that preserves the spirit of the original releases while introducing modern enhancements.
