Square Enix has announced the end of service for FFVII The First SOLDIER, their battle royale game built around Final Fantasy VII.
In a post on their website, they said that FFVII The First SOLDIER will end its service on January 11th, 2023.
“Despite all our efforts to bring you regular updates with fresh and exciting content, we haven’t been able to deliver the experience that we were hoping to, and that you all deserve, so we have made the extremely tough decision to end service for FINAL FANTASY VII THE FIRST SOLDIER”, they said in a statement.
Similarly, Shinra Credits for the game will halt sales, though players with unspent Shinra Credits will still be able to use them until the game terminates service.
The announcement comes less than a year after the game’s launch, with the game officially closing after only 14 months of being online.
During its lifetime FFVII had just over 2 million downloads, earning a total of 3.1 million USD according to AppMagic.
Unfortunately the game never really caught up to its original launch spike for revenue, and has spent most of its lifetime getting less than half of it.
In the past month, it earned less than 100k USD, sitting at only 85k.
The game even featured various collabs with the mainline Final Fantasy VII games, with outfits inspired by characters from the series like Cloud Strife and Tifa Lockheart.
