A TV anime series adaptation of the Fate spin-off light novel Fate/Strange Fake was announced at AnimeExpo 2023.
This comes following the debut of the Fate/Strange Fake Whispers of The Dawn OVA which was also shown at the expo and serves as a prologue of sorts to the upcoming series, introducing the premise and characters that will be involved.
The anime takes place years after the events of the original Fate/Stay Night and revolves around the “Fake” Holy Grail War that is being organized by a Mage group in America. Because this grail war hasn’t been properly made it features a number of strange servants and masters that wouldn’t appear in a regular war. We actually did a whole article about the strange cast of Fate/Strange Fake so give that a read if you want more context.
The original light novel was written by Ryougo Narita, most well known for writing the fantasy thrillers Baccano and Durarara, known for their large casts of eccentric characters, making him a pretty fitting choice for a Fate series. The anime is being produced by A1-Pictures who also worked on the Fate/Apocrypha anime adaptation as well as anime like Lycoris Recoil and Kaguya-Sama: Love is War.
The new Fate/Strange Fake TV anime has not announced a new launch period however the prologue OVA Fate/Strange Fake Whispers of The Dawn has now premiered and is available to watch.
