Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of that little RPG series known as Final Fantasy, has begun sharing progress on his new game titled Fantasian. Via Mistwalker‘s official Twitter, they’ve also been posting a variety of concept art since 2019.
The latest screenshot of Fantasian in development can be seen below, as shared on Hironobu Sakaguchi’s Twitter:
The game will be made available on Apple Arcade supposedly some time this year, after having been in a work in progress for at least the past three years. That background you see? Those are actual dioramas built in real life, later photographed and then have the 3D characters added to them. Sakaguchi says as such back in 2019:
“Fantasian is a game that shouldn’t exist. Every day is a challenge, creating gaming worlds by hand. We are building dioramas, photographing them, and adding 3D characters. I’m a little scared of how many sets we are going to have to build in the end.”
Considering it will be available through Apple Arcade, the game sounds like it will be a premium title rather than a free to play one with added microtransactions. Considering the amount of work put into the game, it’ll probably a while yet before any release date and price gets revealed.
