During Indie Live Expo Winter 2021, Kodansha and Hiro Mashima announced that they will be holding a contest to find a team to develop the Fairy Tail game. Applications will start on 1 December 2021 and end on 17 January 2022. Winners can receive a grant of 15 million Yen which is around RM 548 thousand!
10 million Yen of the grant money came from Hiro Mashima himself and the rest will be given by Kodansha. For those who don’t know, Hiro Mashima is the creator of Fairy Tail. According to Kodansha, the game should convey the charm of the Fairy Tail character. Competitors can use existing game concepts or any existing genre. You also don’t have to be a Fairy Tail fan to apply in this contest.
Development for the game should take about a year and it can be made on any platform. The developer will also be responsible for marketing and distributing the game. In addition, Kodansha will share post-release profits with developers. Finally, if the developer is a team that has more than one person, the grant money awarded is for the entire team.
Kodansha posted a tentative schedule after the application closed. In February 2022, it will review the documents and in the first half of March, it will begin conducting interviews. At the end of March, it will sign a contract and in April 2022, it will sign a contract with its confirmed winner. Applicant developers must be over 18 years old by April 2022 in order to enter.
Applications for the Fairy Tail game contest will be opened on December 1, 2021, by Kodansha Creators ’Lab and will close on January 17, 2022.
