Hypergryph has announced a new game known as Ex Astris, an upcoming paid title featuring an episodic narrative and 3D, turn-based RPG gameplay. It appears to be a mobile-first title, according to the FAQ. What’s more important is that Ex Astris comes not just with announcement trailers, it also has an English website!
Fans of Arknights should be well familiar with Hypergryph, as well as the apparent lead designer (on Twitter @coneyrivard). Some teaser images have been posted on Weibo, giving a glimpse at whatever world we’re heading into, as well as the currently revealed characters.
There’s also the story posted on the website:
When the first satellite passes through the atmosphere, we believe we shall conquer the universe someday. Now I realized, humans are solely extending the boundaries of the earth left the kaleidoscopic world behind.
Traveler.
Have you ever thought that the mourning sea in front of you has lost its warmth?
We are struggling in the shallow waters when tides over the shore. We are stranded on the sandbank when waves recede.
Every single star shall rejoice and lament.
Our destination is on a planet that is tidally locked. Creatures are rarely seen as polar nights and polar days coexist, but a highly advanced civilization exists and remains untouched by any foreign invaders. At this age of discovery, the land would either be crowded with ventures for marketing trading or turned into a deserted battlefield. Fortunately, the situation here is different.
No one would like to settle down on a planet as such, including humans who are satisfied with life on the earth. The planet was abandoned long before the Act on Forbid Unauthorized Landing and Commercial Activity within the Planet Territory comes into effect. This is true, the recession discourages our enthusiasm in exploring unknown terrain, except for some of us… those who seek out the truth.
“Go through the storm, transcend eternity. Dear traveler, enjoy your journey. “
According to the FAQ, Ex Astris sounds like an open-world title, where you can have up to 3 characters to a party with presumably 6 in total. Localization plans have been confirmed, and is signed off by NOUS WAVE STUDIO. It isn’t specified if this takes place in the same “Terra” as Arknights, but developers often have a habit of tying their works together either way.
There were prior rumblings with a number of copyrights applied for by Hypergryph related to this title, but now is the first proper confirmation of an actual game. As of now, they’re in the prototyping stage, so we shouldn’t be expecting this anytime soon.
