The list of esports titles for SEA Games 2019 is expected to be announced in the coming days. This reveal came after the Philippine Star reported an “outdated” list of titles on Wednesday (19th December).
The SEA Games 2019 will mark the recognition of esports as an Olympic medal event. Previously, esports made its first appearance as a demonstration event in the Jakarta Palembang 2018 Asian Games. The event featured popular esports titles like League of Legends and Starcraft II.
On Wednesday, the Philippine Star reported the confirmation of six esports events for the SEA Games. They include Dota 2 (men and women categories), NBA 2K, Hearthstone (men and women categories) and Tekken 7. It did not include Mobile Legends which was already confirmed last month during Razer‘s partnership announcement.
However, it seems that the list has been declared “outdated”. According to NSA esports representative, Joebert Yu, the full confirmation of games will come in a few days time. Joebert Yu is also the managing partner of Gariath Concepts and president of Esports National Association of the Philippines (ESNAP), the NSA of esports.
Just to make everyone be clear on this, the news that came out at Philippine Star (on December 19) regarding the esport…

With this statement, we can speculate that the list is either incomplete or totally wrong. The inclusion of both Dota 2 and Tekken 7 have raised eyebrows as the Olympic Council had once mentioned games which goes against Olympic values. It led to delaying the inclusion of esports as a medal event in the upcoming Asian Games 2022. Both games exhibit a small degree of violence which may conflict with these values.
At the point of writing, relevant parties have not made any full confirmation on the list of esports titles. We can only wait patiently to see if our favourite games make the cut.
