FourThirtyThree Inc has announced the end of service of Eroica, a turn-based RPG 5 years after its development.
The announcement was made over on the Eroica official subreddit, saying that the game will be ending its services on 22nd December 2023.
Eroica started its development back in 2018 and the game was able to open up its global services on August 2022, and February 2023 for Japan.
“However, as always, the resources needed for development were consistently insufficient, preventing us from showing everything we wanted. Despite the efforts of our small development team working late into the night, it became a vicious cycle where we couldn’t satisfy our players. We consider this a lacking excuse for those disappointed with Eroica.” stated the Eroica Operations Teams.
With the studio’s ongoing challenge of maintenance costs outweighing revenue, along with the difficulty of sustaining development, Eroica had to end its services.
Starting from 23rd November 2023, players will be unable to purchase anything from the in-game store and on 22nd December 2023, the service will be terminated.
The Eroica Operations Team had also mentioned that the game’s ongoing Chapter 6 will not be completed before the game’s termination.
Revenue
According to AppMagic, Eroica had amassed a total revenue of over 900 thousand USD since the game’s release on February 2021, as of time of writing.
Based on game’s description, Eroica is a heartfelt collectible anime RPG filled with JRPG nostalgia.
The story follows Sei, a timid and naive man who gets transported to a mystical realm with a memory lost and had awakened to new powers.
As a dark force seeks to seize Sei’s power for itself, Sei must find the inner courage to harness his powers before the world and his memories are lost to darkness.
