Engage Souls will shut down its servers come 14 June, just shy of a full year of service. Sales of in-app purchases have since ceased, but the game will continue to receive updates until the servers close. The usual notice for refunds for paid currency will also be applicable, though the official notice doesn’t state when enquiries will continue to be received.
Engage Souls, prior to its shut down, was meant to be Square Enix‘s way of tapping into the card game market, playing off elements of rock paper scissors. The story tells the tale of a team comprising five young boys and girls who aim to be professional Engage proponents known as contractors. You pick from one of six academies and nurture these aspiring contractors and follow their individual stories. The competitions are simply known as “Engage tournaments”.
Battles involves players building a deck of cards with different characters, and after a game of rock paper scissors, the character will proceed to summon their souls and unleash attacks. Said characters can be further strengthened through bonding, and by doing so, you will unlock new abilities and skills. If you tire from fighting against the AI, you can challenge other players in the PVP mode.
