We are only 2 days away from the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion officially dropping for Elden Ring, and it has already become the highest rated release of 2024 and the highest rated DLC of all time.
This is according to Metacritic where Shadow of the Erdtree has garnered an aggregate score of 95 based on 56 reviews, beating other major hits this year, including the likes of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth as well as indie darlings Hades 2 and Animal Well.
In fact, this score also made Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree the highest rated DLC of all time, beating the previous holder – the absolutely amazing The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine, which currently has an aggregate score of 92.
The review embargo for the Shadow of the Erdtree review was lifted yesterday night, and the DLC has been getting praise after praise with perfect 10 out of 10 scores from various media and critics.
Even in our own Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree review, we gave it a perfect score and wrote “The base Elden Ring is already FromSoftware’s magnum opus – truly one of the most memorable and wonderful adventures crafted after years of amazing Soulslike releases and Shadow of the Erdtree somehow elevates that level of awesomeness beyond.”
“Every new element added in Shadow of the Erdtree is thoughtfully considered – every gear, Talismans, sorceries and incantations, Ashes of War, Spirit Ashes, and any lore bomb will no doubt give fans another unforgettable experience. Every major boss is creatively designed, with diverse attack patterns and skills that will surely rank themselves as some of FromSoftware’s best.”
“As a fan of Soulslike and a fan of Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree is almost a flawless add-on – every bit of it is just satisfying and awesome.”
