The contender for multi-year “Most Anticipated Game” award winner, Elden Ring, might be making an appearance at next year’s Taipei Games Show.
The speculation is mainly coming from Jeff Grubb, a writer at Venture Beat. On his podcast, he’s quoted as saying we could hear about the elusive From Software title “in a month or two”.
Given rumors that Elden Ring was supposed to be at this year’s Taipei Games Show, the idea that we haven’t heard about the game yet simply because the events it’s supposed to be at keep getting cancelled due to Covid-19 seems likely.
However, given Sony’s multiple online events this year, it’s definitely a questionable take as to why they’d want to show off the game at Taipei Games Show first.
The mythology around Elden Ring is a perfect storm of cultural references. First off, the game’s story was produced with George R.R. Martin, author of the acclaimed A Song of Ice And Fire series and face of the delays of the next book. Next, it’s developed by From Software, a studio which, while lacking in large mainstream appeal, has an empowered and passionate fanbase.
Finally, there’s the Covid-19 outbreak, which delayed many projects due to many studios having to work from home. The result is the perfect mythology for an elusive game that’s perpetually delayed.
Still, that hasn’t stopped r/Eldenring being a fairly active community, though they largely consist of fans dealing with the long silence on the game’s updates.
