EA is reportedly working on a new Dead Space, set to be shown at next month’s EA Play event.
The story first started with VentureBeat writer Jeff Grub (via VGC), who said that EA would be resurrecting an old IP at the video game livestream. Eurogamer (via Gematsu) has since corroborated the story, confirming that the IP would be the long-dead Dead Space series, which hasn’t seen a new title since 2013.
“[The story] tallies with information [Eurogamer has] heard.”, Eurogamer says.
The title is reportedly being worked on by Motive Studios, who worked on Star Wars Squadrons. EA dissolved the original Dead Space studio Visceral Games, and the original team have since announced they’d moved to PUBG Corp-owned studio Striking Distance.
Striking Distance had since also announced The Callisto Protocol, a horror game that very much carries the spirit of the original Dead Space in it.
According to the reports the new Dead Space by EA isn’t going to be Dead Space 4, but will instead be a soft reboot of the series. Given Dead Space 3’s pivot away from horror into a co-op cover shooter, it’s unknown which of the series’ two directions this new title would take.
EA Play 2021 is set for Thursday, July 22nd.
