Publisher Electronic Arts (EA) announced that a Black Panther game is currently in development at a newly formed triple-A development studio, Cliffhanger Games.
Cliffhanger Games says that the game is still early in development, but is described as a third-person, single-player action-adventure game focusing on telling an original story featuring the titular character.
The Seattle-based studio, Cliffhanger Games is led by Kevin Stephens, former studio head of Monolith Productions who has previously overseen development of the Middle-earth: Shadow series.
“We’re dedicated to delivering fans a definitive and authentic Black Panther experience, giving them more agency and control over their narrative than they have ever experienced in a story-driven video game.” Kevin says.
Cliffhanger’s development team is said to be composed of industry talents who have worked on critically acclaimed franchises including the aforementioned Middle-earth: Shadow series, God of War, Halo Infinite, Call of Duty and among others.
In their mission statement, Cliffhanger Games said they aim to craft an expansive and reactive world in which fans of Black Panther can explore a culturally rich Wakanda and what it feels like to take on the mantle of it’s protector.
The development team is currently being assembled and the studio is actively hiring talents, encouraging developers to join them, though it’ll be a while before there’s any more news on it.
