The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has announced that the 2023 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) has been canceled.
This will be the fourth time the in-person E3 convention has been canceled since it was first postponed in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Although online events were held in 2021 and 2022.
The ESA has now issued a public statement from Kyle Marsden-Kish, Global VP of Gaming, ReedPop:
“This was a difficult decision because of all the effort we and our partners put toward making this event happen, but we had to do what was right for the industry and what was right for E3. We appreciate and understand that interested companies wouldn’t have playable demos ready and that resourcing challenges made being at E3 this summer an obstacle they couldn’t overcome. For those who did commit to E3 2023, we’re sorry we can’t put on the showcase you deserve and that you’ve come to expect from ReedPop’s event experiences”.
They have also said that Reedpop and the ESA would work together to produce “future E3 events”.
Prior to this announcement, several, prominent gaming publishers had said that they would not be appearing at E3 including PlayStation, Nintendo, Microsoft, Ubisoft, Sega, and Tencent.
The E3 expo was meant to be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 13th to 16th but that will obviously not be happening now.
