Dynasty Warriors will be celebrating its 20th anniversary, with an official website launched by Koei Tecmo. The Musou action game series is also teased to have a new project in 2020! Via Gematsu, there is a message from Dynasty Warriors series producer Akihiro Suzuki which mentions the following:
“On this 20th anniversary year, we have begun various 20th anniversary projects, and are preparing to be able to announce new, game-related information.”
The website also has a timeline of past games within the series, beginning from August 2000 with Shin Sangoku Musou in Japan or Dynasty Warriors 2 in the west. The slightly odd numbering is due to the first Dynasty Warriors game in the west was not a Shin Sangoku Musou game.
For the year 2020, the website simply states “New Project”. Considering how many games have made their own free-to-play titles with gacha elements, one wonders if that could be one of the possible new projects we can see for the year. As it were, Persona 5 Scramble would be one of the latest spin-offs of the genre, so it might be high time for a true Dynasty Warriors title for the console after 9 received mixed reviews, to give some much needed life back to the series for it’s 20th anniversary.
