Durango: Wild Lands received one of its largest content updates in Volcanic Islands. Its shutdown was announced via Facebook post today. The post is attributed to Eunseok Yi (executive producer of What!Studio) and Seungmyeong Yang (producer of Durango: Wild Lands).
They thank the players, whom they refer to as pioneers, who have been part of the Durango world. After all the work that has been done to transform the once vacant lands to flourishing territories, they apologize to players for not being able to continue their expeditions.
The game will still be playable until its termination. Development will continue for a period. A finale to the main storyline is currently in preparation, available through quests. “The end is connected to the beginning”, with K and X as its main characters. It promises to include answers to questions arising from exploring Durango’s world.
PvP content will be introduced in Combat Island, structurally similar to Warp Rush. Pioneers gather in a small island to be the last one standing. Loot from these battles can be used to craft rare weapons to show off to other pioneers. The update will also include instruments. Crafting these instruments will allow pioneers to select or edit music to play in the game.
As service will come to an end, an update to speed up progress will be included to allow pioneers to enjoy the various content. Developers will be working to not diminish the gameplay through this update.
A method of retaining private islands is in the works so that pioneers can keep them even after service ends. Pioneers will also be able to show their islands to others.
Game service will be terminated 18 December 2019 (UTC+9). In-app purchases will cease 16 October 2019. Lore of the Durango world will continue. They hope you will join them in future adventures. How did you enjoy the game?
