2023 introduced a consistent stream of some of the most memorable anime series, from Trigun Stampede, Oshi no Ko and Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. As the year comes to a close, here are some of the most anticipated anime entering 2024.
We will be excluding sequels and leftover anime from the last season.
Dungeon Meshi
With Studio Trigger working on this manga adaptation, Delicious in Dungeon should definitely be on everyone’s radar, especially if you’re longing for a pure fantasy anime after watching Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.
While it’s no philosophical anime that dances on the topic of death, regrets and living your life to the fullest, Dungeon Meshi makes up with an intricately thought out fantasy world and its ecosystem. If the anime manages to adapt its source material well, fans can definitely expect a genuinely interesting and colourful cast of characters and some of the most mouth-watering food out there.
First episode of Dungeon Meshi will be airing on 4th January 2024.
Solo Leveling
Fresh off the heels of the Webtoon being completed, the anime adaptation of Solo Leveling by A-1 Pictures will be your go-to series to check out if you’re a fan of the power fantasy genre.
Being a juggernaut title in the webtoon community, Solo Leveling featuring Sun Jinwoo who is known as “the weakest hunter of all mankind” who one day stumbles upon newfound powers after being fatally injured when he and his party run into a high-rank double dungeon hidden within a low-rank dungeon.
On the verge of death, a mysterious quest window appears in front of Jinwoo, in which he decides to accept said quest and starts leveling up.
First Episode of Solo Leveling will air on 6th January 2024.
Mato Seihei no Slave
What better combination is out there than monsters and powerful women in uniform hunting said monsters?
Mato Seihei no Slave, animated by Seven Arcs features a world filled with monsters called Yomotsu Shuuki, and the only people who can deal with them are women under the government’s Anti-demon Corps who have been empowered by Peaches which gives them unique abilities.
The anime centres around our main protagonist Yuuki Wakura, who finds himself being chased by a Yomotsu Shuuki but is then rescued by Kyouka Uzen, the chief of the Seventh Unit of the Anti-demon Corp.
Seeing something in him, Kyouka then asks Yuuki to join the Anti-demon Corp to fight off against the monsters, but as a slave.
First Episode of Mato Seihei no Slave will be airing on 4th January 2024.
Metallic Rouge
As part of Studio Bones’ 25th Anniversary, Metallic Rogue is an original anime series which features a world where humans and artificial beings coexist, a group known as the Immortal Nine rises up against society.
Tasked with disposing of the revolters, Rogue Redstar (aka Metal Rogue) and investigator Naomi Orthmann heads to Mars to track them down.
Admittedly, there’s not much detail regarding this series considering it’s an anime original, but judging from the trailer, fans can expect an interesting ride nevertheless.
Metallic Rogue will air on 10th January 2024.
Dandadan
Arguably one of the most anticipated titles in 2024 would be Dandadan.
Fans who are familiar with the source material will know that they’ll be in for a treat, and from the same studio that gave us Ping Pong the Animation, Devilman Crybaby and Keep Your Hands off Eizouken, this adaptation will be in safe hands.
The story follows Momo Ayase, a high school girl who believes in ghosts but not aliens, while her classmate Okarun believes in aliens but not ghosts. In a bet to determine who’s correct, the two decide to separately visit locations associated with both the occult and the supernatural, with Ayase visiting the former while Okarun visiting the latter.
When the two reached their respective places, it turns out that both of them were half-right, where both aliens and ghosts do exist.
Dandadan will be airing sometime in October 2024, with no exact release date as of time of writing.
2024 is looking to be another stacked year for anime and we cannot wait for the new season to come in.
