In a sudden announcement, Square Enix will be rebranding Dragon Quest Rivals into Dragon Quest Rivals Ace. The new change will take effect in August 2020, and will see the addition of a long-awaited single-player mode in the form of Solo Battle Adventure.
Along with the rebranding exercise, the game will feature the “Heroes of Triumphal Return” card pack, the first volume in the “Shin” series of card packs. Furthermore, Square Enix will be starting a new series of Dragon Quest Rivals Ace livestreams, beginning with Rivals LIVE! Vol. 1, on 6 August 2020. During the livestream, the developer will be sharing details on the game, particularly on the Solo Battle Adventure mode. We will also be granted a glimpse of the legendary rare cards on offer and various new systems.
The game is available at the moment in Japan on the Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch and PC. Be sure to check the trailer linked above. Square Enix has yet to announce the game for the western market, but hopefully with this somewhat new direction it is taking, we might eventually see it down the line. That said, the market is already crowded with such titles, so we may have to wait for the rebranded game to take off in Japan first.
