Square Enix announced that the monster collector mobile title Dragon Quest Monsters: Super Light will end its service next year, a decade after its release.
According to the announcement on the official website, Dragon Quest Monsters: Super Light will end its service on 31st January 2024, at 3 PM (JST), right after the game’s 10th anniversary.
Service Termination Schedule
In the announcement, Square Enix details the schedule of service termination as follows:
- Termination of in-app purchases – 23 October 2023, at 3 PM (JST)
- Termination of game service – 31 January 2024, at 3 PM (JST)
After the service ends, refunds will be made available for any unused in-game currency, and details regarding the process will be announced in both in-game notices and the official website at a later date.
The publisher noted that players should refrain from uninstalling the game from their devices until the refund procedure has been completed.
Dragon Quest Monsters: Super Light
Dragon Quest Monsters: Super Light is a mobile spin-off of the monster collector RPG that never made it outside of Asia.
However, an Engish version was available in Southeast Asia as published by Garena, but the servers shut down on 26 December 2016.
The game has the players follow a tree guardian spirit named Watabou, exploring dungeons and making friends with monsters.
Throughout its lifespan of 10 years, Dragon Quest Monsters: Super Light managed to amass a total revenue of over $456 Million USD in Japan.
The monster collector title has had a noticeable decline from 2020 onwards and has only generated $3,440,819 USD in the last 6 months.
In the 10 years of the game’s release, it has also managed to garner total downloads of 7,086,850.
As mentioned, Dragon Quest Monsters: Super Light is ending its service on January 31st, 2024.
