Publisher, Square Enix reveals new details of the DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake which is set to release worldwide on November 14, 2024, marking 36 years since its initial launch in 1988. The game will be available on Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and Microsoft Store on Windows. The Steam version will release on November 15.
The game was previously announced to be developed by AMATA K.K., the developers behind Last Labyrinth and The Tale of Onogoro. Moreover, Square Enix, Inc.’s Team Asano has developed a unique visual style called HD-2D, which they will use in the remake. As a result, it’s a style which combines pixel art with 3D graphics used in previous titles like the OCTOPATH TRAVELER series and Triangle Strategy, for remaking the game. Likewise, the DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D remake blends pixel sprites seamlessly with 3D backgrounds to create a visual experience reminiscent of classic gaming.
