Announced in September 2021, the Dragon Quest: The Adventures of Dai and U-Treasure collaboration chess set has been revealed, with pre-orders open until 31 March 2022. This commemorative chess set is meant to celebrate the first anniversary of the anime broadcast, a replica of the Dark King Vearn’s orichalcum pieces. Die-hard Dragon Quest Dai fans can procure the chess set from U-Treasure at a whopping 3.3 million yen, inclusive of tax.
The 32 pieces have been crafted from 925 silver and 925 silver with black coating, and can be used as an actual chess set. The display case has a serial number on the base, as stock is understandably limited. The wooden chessboard is likewise custom-made, designed to be displayed together with accompanying stnd. Should they reach the order limit, they will not be accepting further reservations. The set will also be on display at the U-Treasure Concept Store in Ikebukuro.
As an added bonus, you can get signed shikishi from Emiko Miyamoto, the character designer of the Dragon Quest Dai anime, featuring the members of the Hadlar Royal Guard. Fortunately for overseas fans, U-Treasure does have the option to ship internationally, for any budding evil mastermind who wishes to show off their intellect with a fancy chess set.
