Dragon Age: Absolution, a new six-episode animated series based on the Bioware RPG franchise of the same name has been announced.
It will be airing on Netflix this December. The first teaser trailer for the game was showcased as part of Netflix Geeked Week. Check it out here:
About Dragon Age: Absolution:
- Set in Tevinter, an empire within the Dragon Age universe
- Created in collaboration with BioWare, creators of the Dragon Age video game franchise (winner of over 130+ Game of the Year awards)
- Features an ensemble of new characters inspired by, and authentic to, Dragon Age lore; including elves, mages, knights, Qunari, Red Templars, demons, and other special surprises
The series is created by showrunner Mairghread Scott who has previously written for a number of Transformers and Marvel animated series. The cast of the series has yet to be revealed.
Korean animation studio Red Dog Culture House will be producing the series. They previously worked with Netflix on The Witcher animated movie ‘The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf‘.
We currently don’t know where this game will fall on the Dragon Age timeline or if it will even be canon to the games at all. The description of the game mentions that it will have “an ensemble of new characters” which implies that it will be a standalone series that won’t require prior knowledge of the games to enjoy though.
With that being said, the series’ setting of Tevinter is also the setting of the next game in the Dragon Age series, the upcoming Dragon Age: Dreadwolf so there could be ties between the two.
Dragon Age: Absolution will air on Netflix this December.
