Dr Mario World, the mobile spinoff of the popular puzzle game Dr Mario, is ending its service later this year.
The announcement was made via the game’s official website, where they announced that they would be disabling in-app purchases starting today, July 28th.
Meanwhile, the game itself will fully shutdown on November 1st, 2021. According to the developers, even if you have the game installed on the phone, after shutdown date you won’t be able to access your game.
“If you start up the Dr. Mario World game after the game’s service has ended, an end-of-service notification will be displayed and you will not be able to play the game. You will be able to look back at your play history in Dr. Mario World Memories, which is a web page that will become available after the game’s service ends”, the website reads.
Senior industry analyst Danial Ahmad weighed in on the game’s closure, describing it as the worst selling of Nintendo’s forays into mobile with its iconic mascot.
“Dr. Mario World was the worst performing of the titles the company has published so far. Even Super Mario Run, which essentially operated as a paid game on mobile, generated significantly higher revenue”, he says.
