ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) has announced the groundbreaking ROG Zephyrus Duo 15. This premium gaming laptop brings a new dimension to machines of its clalss, integrating two displays in an ultraslim form factor without sascrificing the high-powered performance that defines the brand.
ROG ScreenPad Plus unlocks endless possibilities
The 14.1-inch panel of the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 is the largest second display ever put in a production gaming laptop. This IPS panel stretches wide viewing angles across the full width of the body, with its 3840 x 1100 resolution boasting high pixel density capable of delivering rich details, crisp text and flowing lines at 60 Hz refresh rate. This second screen is capable of 4K, and touch-screen capable!
Use the ScreenPad Plus to turn the primary display into a more immersive medium for gaming, streaming and content creation. Enjoy a more expansive view of content while the secondary screen can be used to track anything else. In working with game developers like Techland to optimize AAA games and Overwolf, chats and apps can be moved to the second screen.
The ScreenPad Plus can keep your toolbars, timelines and reference materials within sight for a less cluttered workspace on the main screen. With ASUS Pen active stylus support, you can scribble and sketch seamlessly.
Utilize the companion functions of the ScreenPad Plus for work and play. Take snapshots of app arrangements with the Task Group feature and open them instantly by tapping their icons. The ROG Armoury Crate has a built-in resource monitor where users can track vital stats like CPU/GPU frequencies. Streamers can use the second screen to run their broadcasts more easily thanks to an optimized interface with Xsplit Gamecaster.
AAS Plus amplifies airflow
The ROG ScreenPad Plus doubles as a crucial component of the overall cooling system, with AA Plus. The touchscreen is tilted at an angle for a larger 28.5 mm air intake, where the fans can draw in cooler air from above the laptop. This increases airflow by up to 30% over previous AAS implementations, for improved performance and less strain on the internal cooling system. Decreased need for heat dissipation means that noise levels can be kept below 46 dB(A) in Turbo mode, and 43 dB(A) in Performance mode.
Go hi-res or hi-speed
With the Zephyrus Duo 15, users can either have an ultrafast 300 Hz / 3 ms gaming panel or high-resolution 4K UHD display, the former providing esports enthusiasts serious competitive advantage. If you need high-resolution, then pick the latter form for the most incredible visuals. Both displays are factory calibrated and PANTONE Validated for guaranteed colour accuracy, which also covers 100% of the Adobe RGB colour space.
Both primary display options have NVIDIA G-SYNC technology that synchronizes refresh rate with frame rate to minimize and/or eliminate tearing, stuttering and input lag. A GPU switch exclusive to ROG lets users toggle G-SYNC or Optimus mode depending on their needs for smoother gaming or longer battery life.
Super-powered speed
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER means everything is fast and fluid, and in addition to advanced cooling and ROG Boost, the GPU can hit up to 1330 MHz in Turbo mode. The revolutionary Turing architecture behind this GPU series enables incredible visual realism, while rendering with speed across upgraded CUDA cores for programmable shading, RT cores for real-time ray tracing and Tensor cores for AI processing. There versatile enough to also accelerate workloads like image processing, 3D modeling and deep learning.
Boosted productivity
With up to an 8-core 10th Generation Intel Core i9 CPU capable of hitting as high as 5.3 GHz on a single core and capable of engaging up to 16 parallel threads with Hyper-Threading technology, worry not about those heavy duty tasks! Also get up to 48GB combined onboard and SO-DIMM memory, its DDR4-3200 RAM outpacing the old 2666 MHz standard for improved system speed and responsiveness.
The two NVM Express PCIe x4 SSDs run in RAID 0 for plenty of high speed storage, with up to 2 TB capacity. The USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3 allows for versatile connectivity with a wide range of peripherals. With peak theoretical interface bandwidth of up to 40 Gbps – 4X the speed of USB 3.1 Gen 2 standard – Thunderbolt 3 can balance multiple performance-hungry devices and drive external displays up to 8K resolution.
Revolutionary cooling
The Zephyrus Duo 15 CPU is coated with Thermal Grizzly’s liquid metal compound for even greater cooling headroom, the compound applied by specially commissioned custom equipment to automate this process with mechanical precision, even having a special internal fence to avoid the liquid from leaking over time.
With improved heat transfer between CPU and cooling module, the thermal margin can then be used to lower temperatures, reduce noise, or increase performance. Five heatpipes, four heatsinks, Dual n-Blade fans all work together with this cooling system. Switch from multiple modes as you need it – Silent for less fan speed and noise, and Turbo for full power – with a handy keyboard shortcut or Scenario Profiles through the ROG Armoury Crate Utility.
Accuracy, comfort, and durability are key
The keyboard is shifted forward to keep hands away from the warmest parts of the machine and for more space for the ScreenPad Plus. Wrists can sit on the table, with a detachable palm rest to increase comfort during long hours of use. Keyboard enhancements include separated groups of function keys, dedicated hotkeys for volume and microphone mute, ROG Overstroke technology lifting actuation points of underlying switches for better responsiveness and n-key rollovers helping more accurate multi-key inputs. The touchpad is on the right of the keys in digital numeric keypad. The machine also has per-key RGB.
Stay active anywhere with portable power
All that power and premium features are packed into a slim, 20.9 mm thin body at 2.4kg. The sleek magnesium-aluminide chassis is resilient with clean lines and all-metal construction, with anodized finish for professional feel. Productivity on the go is easy with the Zephyrus Duo high-capacity 90 Wh battery, which can also be charged via USB Power Delivery so for lighter work, users can just use a 65 W USB-C adapter. With a compatible USB power pack, you can keep the laptop going for that little bit more.
The ins and outs of on-the-go gaming
Be sure to always be connected with the USB 3.2 Gen 2 port with Thunderbolt 3, capable of Power Delivery and DisplayPort 1.4 support for a G-SYNC desktop monitor, or HDMI 2.0b output for 60 Hz signal for 4K UHD monitors and TVs. Three Type-A USB ports can fit in more peripherals!
For wireless networking, the Zephyrus Duo 15 has superfast WiFi 6 (802.11ax), boosting bandwidth up to 2.4Gbps with compatible router. If you need even less latency, there’s the Gigabit Ethernet jack. Two audio jacks makes it easier to connect a standalone microphone for streaming or voice chat, with a premium ESS Sabre DAC further elevating the experience with high-end headphones. Hi-fi DAC reduces noise and distortion for clearer audio and wider dynamic range, with virtual 7.1-channel surround sound making immersion even deeper. It comes with Hi-Res Audio certification.
Onboard speakers are capable of reliable and engaging audio with minimal distortion, with smart amplifier technology keeping speakers within thermal and excursion limits, letting you turn up the volume high without damaging the cones.
Do you think the Zephyrus Duo 15 could usher in a new era of esports with the competitive advantage offered by the dual screen? Well, we’ll have to wait and see, don’t we?
