Fans of Malaysian found-phone horror and cult British sensation Doctor Who can look forward to Doctor Who: The Lonely Assassins. The game is coming to Android, iOS and Nintendo Switch.
Similar to Kaigan Studios’ other games Sarah Is Missing and Simulacra, the game starts off with you discovering a phone in East London. You get contacted by Petronella Osgood, who starts you on the adventure.
The game will focus on the Weeping Angels, one of the most iconic villains out of former Who writer Steven Moffat’s bestiary. From the trailer, this focuses on emulating the feel of their debut episode, Blink, which had more horror overtones.
It’s unknown if the game will make any use of the Angels’ key mechanic- that they can’t move while they’re being observed. The game references the iconic line, “Don’t blink”, in it’s trailer, so we don’t really know for sure.
Petronella Osgood is a character who first appeared in the series’ 50th Anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor. From the trailer it looks like you’ll be viewing a lot of the game through her perspective, as she tries to get to the bottom of the situration with the Angels.
Doctor Who fans should probably temper their expectations if they’re looking for an appearance by The Doctor. Although he’s mentioned briefly at the start of the game, it doesn’t seem likely that they’d bring back David Tennant (who was The Doctor when Blink first aired) or Matt Smith (who was The Doctor for most of the Weeping Angels episodes).
No release date has been given for the game.
