Innistrad: Crimson Vow is due out November 19th, and that means our friends at Wizards have given us another card to look at, this time full of undead horror. If you’re any kind of zombie player, you’d recognize the shenaniganry up your sleeve just by its name- it’s Diver Skaab.
Diver Skaab is a Blue Zombie, which can only mean good things for you and a frustrating time for your opponent. At a hefty 2 blue 3 colorless cost, it sports equally hefty stats- a whopping 3/5 meaning you’ll be able to block most hits from your opponent unless they’re really busting out the big guns, while also finishing off any fodder unfortunate enough to attack in Diver Skaab’s presence.
It’s more than just a beatstick, though. Diver Skaab brings the Exploit keyword ability to Crimson Vow, letting you sacrifice your creatures to activate its special ability:
When Diver Skaab exploits a creature, target creature’s owner puts it on the top or bottom of their library
Now, there’s rules to be had with sacrificing creatures- as long as the creature is under your control when you sacrifice it, it can be used for Exploit. Combining it with cards to seize control of an opponent’s creature can be a great way to be a nuisance to your opponent- since the Diver’s ability will send it either to the top of their deck (ensuring they don’t get a new card next turn) or to the bottom (say goodbye to ever drawing that creature again).
You’ll be able to get Diver Skaab in normal packs for Innistrad: Crimson Vow, so make sure to consider adding it if you enjoy any kind of undead or just enjoy the gorgeous art by Dave Kendall.
