Discord has shut down the servers for the Switch emulators Suyu and Sudachi, as well as disabling the accounts of the lead developers.
As reported by The Verge, the Discord servers for both the Suyu and Sudachi emulators were completely wiped, with the developers only receiving vague messages about how they were sharing content that allegedly violates intellectual rights.
According to a statement by Discord director of product communications Kellyn Slone to The Verge, it reads, “Discord responds to and complies with all legal and valid Digital Millennium Copyright Act requests. In this instance, there was also a court-ordered injunction for the takedown of these materials, and we took action in a manner consistent with the court order”.
And while not directly mentioned, this implies that the server shutdown is related to the Yuzu lawsuit that occurred around a month ago when Yuzu paid Nintendo $2.4 million to settle the case, while also ceasing all activities and distribution of the emulator.
While it seems that this is just a natural consequence of the lawsuit, it is still worth noting that the court case did not give Nintendo the rights to Yuzu’s free GPL v3 code, which the emulators are based on, implying that Nintendo either filed a further DMCA notice to the emulators or Discord deemed that the content shared in these servers complied with the court case and decided to completely shut down the servers.
Unsurprisingly, Sudachi developer Jarrod Nowell was quite frustrated with the sudden ban on his account.
😐🔫
Would an appeal even work if all of that was to cease on Discord? I used it all the time to talk to my brother and friends
Really pissed off tbh pic.twitter.com/9oH305yGdc

Needless to say, with the communications for the two emulators shut down, the Switch emulator scene has undoubtedly taken a hit as Nintendo continues to curb all third-party emulation efforts.
