Digimon: Source Code (数码宝贝:源码) is a new, upcoming Digimon video game that will release in China for iOS and Android devices. The game recently announced that it is recruiting closed beta testers, with in-game rewards up for grabs.
The game’s website does not offer many details for the closed beta test. There is no mention of the duration of the test, neither did it say what are the recommended specs for the devices. To register for the closed beta test, players only need to choose which device they plan to use and key in a mobile phone number.
Developed by Bandai Namco Shanghai and Baidu Games, one of Digimon: Source Code‘s standout features is the use of physically based rendering (PBR) technology for its graphics and character models. Through this, the game hopes to add a level of detail and realism to the characters, such as emphasizing the hair of Gabumon’s fur or the shine of WarGreymon’s armour. The game’s environments and maps will also have a similar level of detail.
Beyond that, there is also a lack of clear information on the gameplay or genre. All we know is that it will feature over 300 Digimon.
Recently, Bandai has been pretty aggressive in pushing its Digimon IP in China. Digimon: New Century, another China-exclusive Digimon mobile game, is only a few months old. Koreans also just got a PC MMO called Digimon Super Rumble last month. For the rest of us who speak English, the only upcoming Digimon title that will have English language support is Digimon Survive, which has been delayed for 3 years now.
