Reddit user NicolhoBR2 has unearthed some old tweets from Digimon Cyber Sleuth and Survive Producer Kazumasa Habu saying that he would like the make a Digimon high school dating sim where the player could date the Digimon.
These tweets were made in 2018, a few months after the release of Digimon Cyber Sleuth Hacker’s Memory. They were posted to Habu’s personal Twitter account.
ドキドキデジモン学園の妄想が止まらない。
忙しい時ほど全く関係ない妄想企画を考えてしてしまう。
元気でヤンチャなアグモンくんに、
無口でクールなシャッコウモン先輩❤︎

A translation of the above Twitter post was uploaded by user @RavelMonte.
Sorry for not answering before, I really lost you on my feed (Just saw this right now because I’m working on a blog post and I’m using this link). But no, that was a serious answer, and Habu in fact shared where he got that idea. pic.twitter.com/Xk7vrNOPtP

What we can gather from Habu is that DokiDoki Digimon Academy would be an otome game: a dating sim for girls where the player attempts to date different men.
This means those hoping for a chance to do some gardening with Lilymon or take Angewomon to Bible study will be a little disappointed but Habu does mention players would have the chance to fall in love with dashing digital monsters like Agumon and Shakkoumon-Senpai.
The most recent Digimon game produced by Habu, Digimon Survive, is a visual novel with RPG elements. This means he’s gotten a little closer to making a Digimon dating sim, although Survive has less characters dating and more characters dying.
It’s unlikely that DokiDoki Digimon Academy will ever emerge into our world but who knows, maybe one day we’ll see get the chance to go ice skating with Kabuterimon and give Valentine’s Day chocolates to Mugendramon.
We actually interviewed Habu shortly before the launch of Digimon Survive who gave us some insight into the then-upcoming game.
