In the latest episode of “Beyond the Veil,” Diablo IV’s three-part documentary series, Filipino cosplayer and content creator Prince De Guzman shares his journey of bringing the game’s darkest characters to life.
De Guzman, who commands a YouTube following of 1.68 million subscribers, reveals how his passion for acting and multiple art forms led him to cosplay. Starting with horror icons like Pennywise and Michael Myers, he eventually found his way to the world of Sanctuary through Diablo 2, where he first embraced his enduring role as a Necromancer.
The artist particularly credits Diablo IV’s character designs as a source of creative inspiration, notably highlighting his groundbreaking cosplay of Lilith. This marked his first venture into portraying a female character, demonstrating his commitment to pushing artistic boundaries. “Lilith was so perfect. Her design is genius,” De Guzman explains in the episode.
Currently, De Guzman is working on a cosplay of the Vessel of Hatred expansion’s new Spiritborn class, which he describes as a unique challenge compared to his previous Necromancer and Lilith portrayals. The project has even motivated him to incorporate physical training into his preparation. As a prominent figure in Southeast Asia’s gaming and cosplay communities, De Guzman notes the impact of his work on fellow Filipino Diablo fans. He emphasizes the importance of fearlessness in artistic expression, particularly when exploring darker themes.
