Get an early taste for Diablo II Resurrected, the ground-up remake of the original Diablo II this weekend with the new Technical Alpha. Blizzard announced the testing period this weekend, along with the details of just how much of the in-progress game you’ll be able to play.
The Diablo II Resurrected Technical Alpha will allow you to experience the first two Acts of the Diablo II story, along with 3 playable classes. These are the Barbarian, Amazoness as well as the Sorceress. The Necromancer and Paladin will not be available during the Technical Alpha, though presumably they will be present when the full game releases.
While the full version of Diablo II Resurrected will feature completely remade cutscenes with 4K support, Blizzard says this feature won’t be implemented in the Technical Alpha, and will instead feature the regular Diablo II Cutscenes as a placeholder. However, it will feature native controller support, so you’ll be able to play it either with the traditional keyboard and mouse or with your favorite controller.
Blizzard says they’re encouraging content creation with this Technical Alpha, saying that you’re free to capture as much footage as you want from the game for your own purposes. There’s also not going to be a level cap for the Alpha, since progress will not carry over to the full release. It’s safe to assume this means you won’t be able to import your old characters yet, either.
This isn’t the only Technical Alpha, though, as Blizzard has said they plan to do future Technical Alphas after this one. If you’re curious about your machine running Diablo II Remastered, you can always check the PC specs first.
