Blizzard Entertainment disables trading functionality in Diablo 4 following the recent discovery of a duplication bug. Diablo 4 community manager Adam Fletcher announced the issue on the official Blizzard forums. According to Fletcher, the development team is currently investigating the problem and will work to identify and resolve any related issues. Fletcher provided no specific timeline for restoring trading, stating that they will inform players when the feature becomes available again.
This duplication bug is not unprecedented in the Diablo franchise, with similar exploits having affected Diablo 2 in the past. The current issue in Diablo 4 has reportedly led to the appearance of “thousands of duplicate materials” in the game’s market, as noted by prominent Diablo 4 streamer Rob2628.
The exploit gained traction after users shared it on various social media platforms, including TikTok, and a Chinese live streamer reportedly demonstrated it to thousands of viewers. Diablo 4’s trading system allows players to exchange certain items such as rare gear, gold, and gems. However, some high-value items, including Unique items, Legendary items, and Legendary Aspects, are not tradeable. Additionally, players can only trade some items once before they become bound to a character.
This trading suspension comes alongside other recent issues in Diablo 4. Blizzard also temporarily disabled the game’s Gauntlet mode due to an undisclosed bug, promising to re-enable it following a patch release. Additionally, a recent update addressed various game issues, including fixing the Unique item The Umbracrux, which Blizzard had disabled after it granted excessive experience gains to players.
As the situation develops, players are advised to stay tuned for further announcements from Blizzard regarding the status of trading in Diablo 4.
