If you’re one of those die-hard train simulator enthusiasts, then Square Enix has made the original Densha de GO available via your mobile browser. The original Densha de GO was released on the Playstation in 1997, seeing you take on the role as a train operator. Requirements for this mobile release is iOS 12 or higher on iOS devices and Android 8 or higher on Android devices, and is compatible with Safari and Google Chrome browsers.
Operate trains in three sections of the JR Yamanote Line – “Shibuya to Ebisu,” “Ebisu to Meguro,” and “Meguro to Gotanda” – as you would have experienced it back in 1997. Smoothly stop the train at each station’s stopping point for a high score, and you can also share your results to Twitter.
This mobile release is to promote Densha de GO!! Hashirou Yamanote Sen which will be available for the Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch. At present, only the Playstation 4 version has been confirmed to launch 3 December in Japan at 7,800 yen, while the Switch version has neither pricing or date. The video below compares the original Densha de GO! with the upcoming Densha de GO!! Hashirou Yamanote Sen.
The series has thus far been Japan exclusive presumably due to the focus on Japan train lines, thus not seen as appealing to worldwide audiences. In any case, if the Train Simulator DLC has you quaking, then you can give Densha de GO a try on your mobile.
