Deep Insanity Asylum is the game branch of Square Enix‘s multimedia Deep Insanity project, with a launch date set for 14 October 2021 for iOS, Android and PC via Steam. A new promotional video has been released as well, that you can watch below:
This follows an earlier closed beta period in July, providing better looks at the gameplay to come. In real time battles, use your array of skills in combat. With the Break mechanic, there’ll be periods where you can deal massive damage to a vulnerable enemy. The typical character upgrades, elemental advantages / weaknesses, are all in.
To further lean into the multimedia aspect, an “escape room” game was held through Twitter, where you followed newbie journalist, Ayano Sawatari, in her interviewing a girl afflicted by the “Randolph Syndrome”, a disease that has gripped the world. The “Asylum” seems to be a place where resources have been pooled to study and cure the disease, but our protagonist awakes to find himself without memory, and the sole survivor of an apparent sanatorium.
The characters of the game, anime and manga are all trying to solve the mystery in their own way, for a unique intersection of mediums. Deep Insanity Asylum does not appear to be planned for launch outside of Japan at present. The anime, The Lost Child, will begin airing 12 October 2021, so you could try catching that instead.
