We finally got our first rather surreal look at Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2, now officially known as On the Beach, officially coming in 2025.
As part of the January 2024 State of Play presentation, Kojima Productions unveiled about 10 minutes of gameplay and cutscene footage of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and it is as bizarre as you would have expected.
Today’s trailer is dense with your typical perplexing Kojima-infused imagery, and our first but very brief look at actress Elle Fanning’s character, who was teased by Kojima a while back through a cryptic post on Twitter.
Not only that, there is somehow a sentient talking ventriloquist’s dummy now hanging down Sam’s waist and accompanying him throughout his journey.
Troy Baker’s Higgs is also somehow revived and rocking an electrifying guitar gun and aside from Léa Seydoux, Norman Reedus, and other actors reprising their roles, Shioli Kutsuna also stars in the upcoming sequel.
In addition to all the strangeness of Death Stranding 2, Kojima also announced that he is working on returning to its roots with a new unnamed action espionage title alongside PlayStation.
The sequel to Death Stranding was first announced during The Game Awards 2022 in your typical Kojima fashion, full cryptic hints to the story.
Aside from a sequel, a live-action movie of Death Stranding is also currently in the works with A24 Films, a production house best known for Academy Award-winning films such as Everything Everywhere All At Once, The Whale, and Ex Machina, just to name a few.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is currently scheduled to be released sometime in 2025, but no specific dates have been shared yet.
