After swirling rumors, EA has confimed a remake of Dead Space, the popular horror franchise from the 2010s.
No gameplay was shown, however as previously reported the remake will be handled by Star Was Squadron studio Motive. The remake will use the Frostbite Engine, and will release exclusively on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
While no details were given on the nature of the game at EA Play Live, the Dead Space YouTube channel confirmed that it would be a remake of the original Dead Space, retelling the events of Isaac as he investigates the USG Ishimura.
The teaser was sure to show off many hallmarks of the Dead Space franchise, such as Isaac Clarke’s RIG on his back indicating his health, as well as the writing on the wall written in blood tellin players to “Cut off their limbs”, the signature mechanic of the Dead Space series.
Legacy of Dead Space
Dead Space is an iconic horror series, eschewing traditional horror settings for a space setting, more akin to movies like Alien. The game drew a lot of praise for its use of HUD- rather than have things like bars take up space on the top of the screen, everything you needed to know about the protagonist Isaac was on his RIG on his back.
The games were developed by Visceral Games, who were shut down by EA in 2017 after moving them to develop Battlefield: Hardline.
