Behaviour Interactive, the studio behind the hit horror asymmetrical multiplayer title, Dead by Daylight, is the latest game company to be hit with layoffs.
In a report by Kotaku, Behaviour Interactive had laid off around 45 employees between January 9 and January 11, 2024.
This wave of layoffs spanned across different departments at Behaviour Interactive’s Montreal headquarters and the let go was reported to have started in December.
The layoffs were confirmed by the company which sent the following statement to Kotaku:
“Recently, changing market conditions necessitated adjusting the scope of several Behaviour projects. In these situations, our preference is always to reassign talent to other projects. Unfortunately, this option is not always available to us. These departures represented less than 3% of our total workforce.”
Based on Behaviour Interactive’s LinkedIn profile, the company has employed around 1,300 staff worldwide.
Unfortunately, the layoffs continue the string of disheartening job losses in the industry that has been affecting studios of all sizes with reportedly more than 10,000 people being laid off last year.
Recently, we learned that Unity would be letting go of 1,800 employees, and just today, Lords of the Fallen publisher CI Games has confirmed that they laid off 10% of its workforce, while the livestreaming platform Twitch will be cut off 35% of its staff last week.
