Wizards of the Coast held their D&D Direct today, announcing big news for all things related to D&D- including the next expansion for the game, as well as extended media like games and miniatures.
From the new three-book return to Spelljammer, to even news about the upcoming D&D movie, there’s a veritable dragon’s hoard of valuable information from the event.
That’s why, we’ve got you covered with the major highlights of all the announcements from everyone’s favorite tabletop RPG series.
Spelljammer: Adventures In Space
The biggest news coming out of the D&D Direct is the confirmation of Spelljammer: Adventures In Space- this set launches August 16th and includes 3 books for all your adventuring needs:
Astral Adventurer’s Guide
This is the book to get you started on your adventures in Wild Space, with everything players and DMs will need for their spacefaring journeys.
The tome also contains the new playable races for Spelljammer- ranging from Astral elves and mechanical gnomes to hippo-headed beings and even playable slimes.
Boo’s Astral Menagerie
Full of all the unfriendly faces you’ll encounter in the cosmos (including a literal unfriendly face hellbent on destroying your ship), Boo’s Astral Menagerie will have everything you need for DMs to populate their own space adventures with enough races to make your setting feel intergalactic.
Light of Xaryxis
This is your adventure book, full of playable tasks for you and your group as you journey through the stars together. Just like an 80s sci fi serial, this adventure book comes with 12 episodic adventures, each with their own dramatic cliffhanger.
The New D&D Starter Set
It’s the perfect time to get the people around you into D&D, as the D&D Direct announced a whole new starter set for new players. Complete with digital onboarding tools and new content, you’ll want to check this out if you’ve ever been curious about getting your own band of adventurers together for their first big quest.
It also pairs well with the online Monster Compendium- accessible with any Wizards account- where you’ll be able to download stat sheets for some monsters even featured in Starjammer
Celebrating The Diversity of D&D Through The Radiant Citadel
Another adventure book, you’ll get to see the world of D&D through the eyes of diverse authors with Journey Through The Radiant Citadel. This adventure book launches June 21st, and features adventures written from all walks of life- such as a Carribean-themed adventure as well as one similar to the Day of the Dead.
If you’d been hankering for a new flavor of world, this is a must pick for your adventuring needs.
Putting the Dragons in D&D With Dragonlance
Another new Adventure Book complete with its own Battle Game, Dragonlance was the surprise announcement that closed off the D&D Direct. Not much is known about it, but expect to see it some time in late 2022- which means you can look forward to more information about it sooner rather than later.
Lights, Camera, Roll For Initiative!
The event also brought us updates on the upcoming D&D Movie. Titled Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, we don’t know all that much about it just yet- but you can find out for yourself when the movie releases on 3rd March, 2023.
Video Game News
Of course, Dungeons & Dragons has a strong presence in videogames as well, and Wizards of the Coast covered key updates for some of their big titles at the presentation.
Baldur’s Gate 3 continues to be developed, but has an expected release window now- Larian’s CRPG will get its full release some time in 2023.
Neverwinter: Dragonslayer is the newest expansion for their fantasy MMO, and will see a June 2022 release date as you deal with all manner of dragons and the messes they create.
With all this and more, there’s a lot to look forward to with D&D in the year 2022.
