Steamforged Games released new information about the upcoming Dark Souls Tabletop RPG (TTRPG) today, including the fact it will sport a 5e compatible ruleset for your DnD campaigns.
The book will feature all the monsters and systems needed to run your own TTRPG based on the Dark Souls world- meaning you can craft your own chosen undead for the game’s campaign.
What 5e compatibility means is that you’ll easily be able to use these Dark Souls TTRPG assets for your DnD games as well- its an implication that the structure will very much be similar to 5E, so you won’t have to learn an entirely new ruleset from scratch if you’re already familiar with the system.
“First teased in December with a surprise trailer premiere, Steamforged can now confirm DARK SOULS™: The Roleplaying Game will be a standalone RPG powered by fifth-edition rules enriched with unique DARK SOULS™ mechanics”, says Steamforged Games in a statement.
It’s not surprised they would build the game’s ruleset around DnD’s fifth edition- for one, it’s largely lauded as a beginner-friendly system, free of overly complicated charts and diagram.
For another, it’s not like the Souls games are free of DnD influences- Demon’s Souls in particular was rich in them, even including Mindflayers in one of the game’s areas.
