Cygnus Enterprises, a strategy/ARPG title is using generative AI for in-game dialogue, according to NetEase Games.
The feature launches today on Steam, and allows for NPCs in the game to recognize intent and context in player requests.
In a short demo presentation, Team Miaozi Project Manager Oscar Lopez and Lead Programmer Brian Cox said the feature would allow characters to execute in-game commands based on prompts from the player.
“Not only this, each of the characters have their unique personality and unique memory and knowledge base of the lore of the game”, Lopez explains.
In the video, he shows the player asking their AI companion, PEA, about various objects around them, with the character capable of explaining their origin as well as uses.
These features apply to farming materials as well as combat, as they’ve shown that you’ll be able to ask NPCs to heal you or shield you if you’re under attack.
They’re developed in partnership with Inworld AI, a platform built on intent recognition that allows for in-game action, and further tweaks are expected before the game’s full launch.
AI integration is the latest update to Cygnus Interprises, which is still in Early Access on Steam with no full release date set just yet.
Generative AI is considered a generally hot-button topic in creative industries, often seen as a way to get out of paying writers- other titles like the recently launched Starfield and Baldur’s Gate 3 will also feature a variety of context-sensitive dialogue options, written by actual developers.
