Cygames, Inc. (Japanese game developer) has take a huge leap forward and recently announced that it will joint force with the Center for Research in Entertainment and Learning (CREL) at the University of California San Diego Qualcomm Institute.
A memorandum was established to promote academic collaboration between Cygames and CREL, in the creation of an x-reality lab that focuses on mixed, blended and augmented reality. The two parties will also work together on AI technologies for Cygame’s future titles meaning we can expect to see the Japanese mobile game giant expanding on a new genre with latest AI & AR technology. The agreement will also make it easier for Cygame to enter US’s market.
In case if you have not heard of Cygames yet, it is a famous Japanese game developer that brought us tons of great games on mobile, PC and console. Some of their product includes Shadowverse, The Idolmaster series, Granblue Fantasy and Dragon Quest Monsters Super Light.
On the other side, the Qualcomm Institute is the UC San Diego division of the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2), one of four Gray Davis Institutes for Science and Innovation.
The institute mainly focuses on brain science, robotics, and stresses collaborative research in culture, energy, the environment, and health – as well as four enabling technologies (wireless, photonics, cyberinfrastructure, and nano-micro-electromechanical systems).
While CREL focuses on grassroots creativity and learning as well as promoting research that combines AI with interactive and participatory media.
It is great to see both of them are collaborating to push the development of game industry further. I am looking forward to the good news they are bringing us!
