Sunrise has announced a big lineup of Gundam content coming next year, including a new anime, a movie starring Cucuruz Doan as well as a smartphone app based on Iron Blooded Orphans.
The Witch From Mercury
The first of these announcements is The Witch From Mercury, a new anime set to release some time in 2022. We don’t know much about the series, such as what timeline it’s going to be in. However, it will be targeted at Young Teens, as per Oricon’s report.
Considering the report says this is the first new Gundam anime since Iron-Blooded Orphans, it’s safe to assume that this is a proper Gundam anime, and not going to be a part of the Build Series.
Cucuruz Doan’s Island
The movie announcement is titled Cucuruz Doan’s Island, based on the episode from Mobile Suit Gundam of the same name. This will feature the events of the episode from Mobile Suit Gundam , but as seen from the eponymous eyes of Cucuruz Doan and will release in 2022.
This episode was famously cut from the North American release of Mobile Suit Gundam, due to comments from series creator Yoshiyuki Tomino that the episode was not up to par.
Iron Blooded Orphans
Finally, the last announcement was for a smartphone app to pull you into the world of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. Titled Iron-Blooded Orphans G, it’s not known just what the app is meant to do.
However they did also announce a 9-episode special of Iron-Blooded Orphans. Details are really scarce on whether this would be 9 episodes of new content, or just a partial rebroadcast of the popular anime. It’s said that the Urdr-Hunt mobile game would also make an appearance here, which hasn’t been heard from since it was first announced in 2019. The app will also launch in Spring 2022.
